KITSAP SOAP BOX DERBY ASSOCIATION

A little history......the first Soap Box Derby race in Kitsap County (as far back as anyone can remember) was held in Silverdale in the Spring of 2003 (there were actually races held many decades ago in Bremerton, but we can't remember that far back). The race was put on by an enthusiastic group of Rotarians from the Silverdale Sunrise Rotary Club. A new club to the area, this "Small but Mighty" group set out to bring back a little nostalgia and hold a community activity that everyone could enjoy. Since the beginning, Rotary has continued to foster this sprit and holds the annual Local Championship each June racing down Ridgetop Blvd. in Silverdale.

Along the way, parents and children have grown more interested in the sport. Many families travel throughout the Pacific Northwest to complete in Soap Box Derby Rally races. With the help of the Rotary Club and a fanatical bunch of parents, this continued progression has led to the creation of the Kitsap Soap Box Derby Association. The Association is made up of parents, grandparents, children, friends, and Rotarians. The goal of the Association is to foster growth and competition with Soap Box Derby racing in Kitsap County and the surrounding areas.

Each year the Association and the Rotary Club assist one another in putting on car clinics. Rally Races, and the Local Championship race. Soap Box Derby has helped to bring familiies and the community together in a positive way. The sport and the races do not happen all by themselves - it takes involvement by many. The saying, "you get out of it, what you put into it" has never been more fitting. Your belonging to and support of the Kitsap Soap Box Derby Association will help to ensure that the sport continues to thrive and prosper in Kitsap County.

How can I help? You can help by spreading the word and becoming a part of our Association. The cost is minimal and is an opportunity for everyone to be a part of a wonderful group of people who are fostering wholesome entertainment and learning for our youth. Annual Membership Dues are $20 per racing family, and $10 for non-racing members. Family membership entitles racer(s) to reduced fees at Rally Races, provides for voting privileges at annual and special meetings, and helps keep the Association running. The next Annual Meeting will be held in October of 2006.
